Fair housing statement
Updated October 5, 2026.
Brian McFarland and HFM Realty are committed to equal housing opportunity. We provide real estate services to buyers, sellers, renters, owners, and investors without discrimination, and we do not steer clients toward or away from any community, neighborhood, or property based on a protected characteristic.
Who is protected
Federal law. The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, and national origin.
Massachusetts. State law provides additional protections, including religious creed, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, genetic information, veteran or military status, and receipt of public or rental assistance such as a housing voucher.
Rhode Island. State law provides additional protections, including sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, lawful source of income, military status, country of ancestral origin, age, and status as a victim of domestic abuse.
These summaries are not complete statements of the law. Protected classes and exemptions change over time; the agencies below publish current information.
What this means when you work with us
- We show and discuss any available property that fits the criteria you give us, wherever it is located.
- We do not describe who lives in a neighborhood or comment on whether a community is a fit for a particular kind of person or family. We can point you to official public sources for schools, safety, and community data so you can make your own evaluation.
- We present all offers and inquiries without regard to protected characteristics.
- You may ask for a reasonable accommodation if a disability affects how you work with us or use this website. See our accessibility page.
If you believe you have experienced discrimination
You can file a complaint with a government agency. There are filing deadlines, so act promptly.
- U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 1-800-669-9777
- Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD)
- Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights
If your concern involves our services, please tell us so we can address it: Brian McFarland, 617-468-8505, bmcfarland@hfmrealty.com, or HFM Realty at 617-851-3209. Contacting us does not extend or replace any agency filing deadline.
