Offer Accepted in Massachusetts: What Happens Next?

An accepted offer starts a coordinated set of tasks. It does not mean inspections, final financing or title work are complete. Share the signed documents promptly with your attorney and lender, and create one deadline calendar.

First: confirm documents and deposits

Keep the complete accepted offer and any addenda. Confirm the deposit holder, amount, due date and approved delivery method using known contact details. Record when the deposit is received.

Next: schedule due diligence

Review inspection rights and terms with your attorney. Book the inspector, coordinate access and ask about any specialist reviews. Request association documents or property records that could affect your decision. Leave time to evaluate findings before notices are due.

Prepare the P&S

Ask your attorney to explain unresolved terms, deposit handling, financing protection, included items and closing obligations. Read the final version rather than assuming it matches an earlier draft. See the offer and P&S guide.

Keep financing on its own track

Confirm the application, appraisal and commitment schedule with your lender. Ask whether the rate is locked and how long it lasts. Provide requested documents securely. Tell your attorney promptly if underwriting delays could affect a contractual deadline.

Coordinate insurance and title questions

Obtain insurance quotations for the actual property and ask about coverage that your lender requires. Route title concerns to the closing attorney. If a problem needs an extension, have your advisers document the agreement rather than assuming dates move automatically.

Prepare for the last week

Compare closing figures, arrange the walkthrough and confirm funds and identification requirements. Keep moving and utility arrangements flexible enough for the possession terms. Use the closing checklist to organize the handoff.

Your signed agreement controls the sequence and deadlines. This checklist is a planning aid, not a replacement for transaction-specific advice.
